Newton Law
My Firm
Deb Newton is a long-standing member of the Raleigh, North Carolina legal community.
Deb first arrived in the Raleigh, North Carolina legal community by joining Joe Cheshire at Cheshire, Parker, Hughes, and Manning, a law firm on Fayetteville Street Mall. From 1990 to her admission to Campbell law school in 1996, Deb worked as Joe Cheshire's paralegal and a trusted member of his legal defense team in State and Federal Court. It was there that Deb received the training, and the passion, to aid those accused of crimes who were unable to assist themselves.
Deb arrived at Campbell Law School after the conclusion of the Mark Kirby federal litigation and a murder case in Charlotte, North Carolina. After leaving Joe in good hands, Deb concentrated on her studies, taking time to Clerk at the Wake County District Attorney's office, the North Carolina Court of Appeals (for Judge Mark Martin), and the United States Attorney's Office, EDNC.
After passing the Bar, Deb clerked for Justice Mark D. Martin at the North Carolina Supreme Court, serving also as his teaching assistant at UNC-Chapel Hill law school and UNC-Central School of Law.
At the conclusion of her clerkship, Deb joined the staff of the North Carolina Department of Justice, Attorney General's Office, at the invitation of then Attorney General Michael Easley. AG Roy Cooper arrived a year later when Mr. Easley became Governor. Deb represented the North Carolina Department of Correction, Theodis Beck, Secretary, in State and Federal Court, handling civil litigation in personnel and prisoner constitutional litigation.
Deb opened Newton Law on 3 December 2003 after leaving the AGO. At Newton Law Deb utilizes the resources and expertise developed during her 22 years in the Raleigh legal community to benefit the select clients she represents in State and Federal Courts in North Carolina and on appeal. Deb enjoys the commitment and services of professionals like Randy Montague, Montague Investigative Services of Raleigh, Dr. Richard McAnulty, a well-respected mental health professional, author and professor from Charlotte, Dr. James Poole, a well-respected pediatrician and ADHD expert from Raleigh, and Durward Matheny, a handwriting expert from Wake Forest.
